This document describes the problem of rainwater intrusion in light-frame building walls, and assesses its causes as well as solutions. It investigates issues surrounding rain-control engineering, building design and cladding systems. The author promotes developing a consensus on the terms relating to rainwater management in building walls and determining an engineering approach to designing light-frame buildings to prevent leakage-induced damage.
