Light-Frame Wall and Floor Systems Analysis and Performance

This report provides analysis of light-frame wood structures, with emphasis on floor and wall systems. It also describes methods for predicting structural performance and light-frame wall and floor systems.

The report is divided into three major sections: structural performance, fire safety and environmental concerns. The section on structural performance includes subsections on wood structural materials, floors, and wall systems under axial and bending loads. The fire safety section includes subsections on fire barriers and fire growth. The section on environmental concerns includes subsections on thermal analysis, passive solar analysis, moisture movement and management, and acoustic performance or noise control.

Each subsection generally includes an introduction and background information on the issue, an evaluation of performance factors, and a description of analysis methods. Subsections are augmented by diagrams illustrating design techniques and tables outlining ratings and requirements for various assemblies.
