Objectives:
  • Measure costs and labor for several foundations widely used in the southern states surrounding the Gulf of Mexico
    1. A raised crawlspace (or stem wall) foundation with a wood floor deck
    2. A raised concrete slab foundation
    3. A slab-on-grade foundation
  • Capture costs, labor and timing for each type of foundation and first floor system.
  • Compare results.
  • Provide information to make informed decisions regarding the types of foundation/floor systems available in the region and the approximate costs.
  • Record and analyze the crawlspace conditions in two adjacent houses; one naturally vented and the other mechanically vented by a “smart” fan.
General Construction Information: Concrete masonry unit stem wall foundations with wood or concrete
first floors will be featured in this cost study.
Significant Results: Project start up July 2008.
