October 1995
This project identified and evaluated barriers to the installation of residential fire sprinklers, including both cost and acceptance issues. Barriers that affected both cost and acceptance included regulations, requirements, legislation, education, attitudes, politics, technology, state minimum/maximum codes, state certification/licensing, and administrative processes. The project included pilot projects in 14 jurisdictions that demonstrated methods for removing barriers to residential fire sprinklers and ways to design and install sprinklers at substantially lower costs. This report describes these case studies and their findings.
