This two page overview describes the universal designator system for light gauge steel framing members. The system uses “The Right STUF”: “S” for stud or joist sections with flange-stiffeners (c-shapes), “T” for track sections, “U” for cold-rolled channel or channel studs (without flange stiffeners), and “F” for furring channels. The Right STUF will identify any common light-gauge steel framing member using web depth, flange width and minimum base metal thickness.
