Objectives: |
- Evaluate commercially available techniques and technologies for managing water intrusion beneath windows in the laboratory and the field
- Investigate how two types of vinyl windows, two types of flashing techniques, and two methods of weather resistant barrier installation work together to identify the best approach for managing water intrusion beneath windows
|
|
General Construction Information: |
- Laboratory test consisted of full-scale mock-ups of four different methods of pan flashing and sill protection
- Two field tests included a two-story colonial home and a small commercial building which had experienced moisture damage. Exterior cladding on the home was replaced with a drainable stucco and manufactured stone veneer; the barrier EIFS on the commercial building was replaced with drainable EIFS.

|
Significant Results: |
Pan flashing products used with other water management techniques can greatly reduce water intrusion at window/wall interfaces. |
