Evaluation
Start Date:
May 1999
Completion Date: September 2002
Technologies Evaluated:

Objectives: To examine constructability, characteristics, and consumer acceptance of targeted technologies.
General Construction Information: 80-unit, age-restricted (55+) development, with 1 and 1½ story attached units. 1,000 to 1,500 square foot homes in the sale price range of $126,000 to $150,000.
Significant Results:
  • Homebuyers were satisfied with the attributes of the technologies tested. Only the tubular skylights would not be included in their option purchase decisions.
  • The builder chose to use two PATH technologies, fiber cement siding and tankless water heaters, as standard features in all homes. The other technologies are offered as options.
  • The use of an ICF wall system does not guarantee a tight building. Air sealing details are still required in key areas.
  • The tankless water heater with the 3.2 gallon per minute capacity (Seisco) met capacity needs at the project’s inlet water temperature of 73°F.
