Significant Results: |
- SIPs construction combined with the geothermal heat pump resulted in a home energy test result of 65 percent better than the 1993 Model Energy Code.
- By using three basic home layouts and training its own crew, the builder developed a cost-effective method for constructing affordable homes.
- Fiber-cement siding pricing was comparable to wood and higher-end vinyl siding.
- Prefinished drywall corners were not cost effective enough for the builder to switch to the new product.
- Tankless water heaters saved energy and provided continuous hot water supply during peak demand periods, which satisfied the occupants.
- The stained concrete floors were well received at the 2000 International Builders’ Show. However, the builder did not continue the option due to the high cost and lack of consumer interest.
- Local code officials did not allow the use of air admittance valves.
