Concrete Homes Save Energy - A Concrete Homes Technology Brief
August 2006
This two-page fact sheet discusses the potential energy savings from using Insulating Concrete Homes over conventional wood-frame construction. Results of a study of 58 single-family homes are summarized in which ICF homes used 44% less heating energy and 32% less cooling energy than wood-framed homes. Energy savings are attributed to the higher R-value of the ICF walls and the lower air infiltration of the ICF homes (which averaged about half that of the wood-framed homes).
