Use of two part caulks or sealants has always been limited because of the need for mixing and metering of the individual components. A new product now opens up many more durable sealants to the industry by eliminating the need for special mixing or applicator tools. The two-component cartridge is designed to fit into a conventional caulk gun. The design will make it much more practical to use two-part sealants including many urethane products.
TAH Industries has developed the TAH PlusTM Universal Cartridge to deliver two part sealants using a standard 1/10 gallon single component caulking gun. The cartridge will hold 250 ml in a 1:1 ratio of each component. Other similar products designed to fit into a standard caulking gun are only applicable to high ratios that are not mix sensitive, require adaptor tools, or have much smaller capacities. The TAH Plus provides accurate metering at the 1:1 ratio. A cartridge for 2:1 ratio components is also under development.

Currently, limited availability of the cartridge is the only known limitation. TAH is marketing the Universal Cartridge to sealant manufacturers. Only one sealant manufacturer combines the cartridge with their sealant, although TAH has indicated that several other agreements to use the cartridge are imminent.
Caulks and sealants dispensed from the universal two-part cartridge are not expected to cost any more than the same sealant dispensed using other specialty tools now on the market.

There are no known code or regulatory issues introduced by using a factory-produced universal cartridge for two-component sealants. However, use of two-part components or even single part sealants or adhesives may require a code evaluation report when used as part of a structural anchor system or for other structural uses.

The applicator will use the universal two-part cartridge in the same way as a standard single-part caulking gun. The components are self contained in the cartridge. All mixing is internal to the cartridge. The applicator will only need to insert the cartridge into a standard caulking gun.
The universal two-part cartridge represents an improvement for dispensing existing product lines. However, contractors who are not familiar with two-part caulks, adhesives, or sealants should be careful to follow the manufacturer's recommended practices in regard to preparation of the substrate, amount of sealant for a given application, use of backer rod, and other installation details.

The universal cartridge will eliminate site mixing and the need for special applicators or tools. All mixing and components are internal to the cartridge. This technology will make more-durable multi-part sealants easier to use on the job-site.
