- Walls and ceiling framed at 16 inches on-center with a single top plate
- R-13 walls, R-30 attic insulation, U-0.31 low-e windows covering less than 10 percent wall area
- Unvented basement and crawlspace foundation
- Air sealing package, all ducts in conditioned space, and unbalanced ventilation using bath fans and timers

Field researchers worked with HFH staff to identify appropriate technologies and observed the incorporation of technologies into the building's construction. Costs were reported by the HFH construction manager.
