A house that was built a number of years ago has a problem with the engineered wood siding. Is there any warranty?

Question:

A house that was built a number of years ago has a problem with the engineered wood siding. Is there any warranty from the siding manufacturer?

Answer:

Engineered wood siding is made from various combinations of wood veneers, fibers, or flakes, and bound together with glues, resins, and/or waxes. Several different types and brands of engineered wood siding have been reported to have moisture-related failures, possibly due to product or installation defects or improper maintenance. Class action lawsuits have been filed against several manufacturers-settlements have been reached in some cases; others are pending or have been dismissed.

First step, identify the manufacturer of the siding. Sometimes the manufacturer provides a distinguishing marking on the back of the siding. Once you have identified the manufacturer, you can then contact them to see if a settlement offer is still available. Siding Solutions, Inc. can assist you in identification of the siding material.
