Can you provide me with information regarding foundation types found on residential structures?

Question:

Can you provide me with information regarding foundation types found on residential structures?

Answer:

A typical foundation type is stem wall, where a concrete footing is combined with a vertical wall to support the floor or floor concrete slab. Sometimes, in slab-on-grade construction, the slab, stem wall, and footing are poured into a monolithic piece saving time and labor costs. Wood foundations use pressure-treated wood, and have been successful. Insulating Concrete Forms (ICFs) use an insulated form placed on top of a footing, with concrete poured into the form. This method has the advantage of better thermal performance than conventional stem wall foundations.
