What fasteners can be used with preservative-treated lumber?

Question:

What fasteners can be used with preservative-treated lumber?

Answer:

Recent testing of alternatives to chromated copper arsenate (CCA) indicates that some of these new wood preservatives such as Ammoniacal Copper Quat (ACQ), Copper Azole (CBA), and Borate Oxide (SBX) can be more corrosive to metal connectors and fasteners. As CCA has been phased out from many residential applications, it is recommended that all fasteners installed into preservative-treated wood are hot-dipped, galvanized, or stainless steel. Electroplated galvanized fasteners may not be adequate for applications with preservative-treated lumber.
