Are there federal tax credits available to home builders for energy efficient homes?

Question:

Are there federal tax credits available to home builders for energy efficient homes?

Answer:

Yes. Federal tax credits are available to builders that construct energy efficient homes. Credits also apply to producers of manufactured homes. The credits were made available under the Energy Policy Act of 2005. Credits up to $2,000 are available to eligible contractors that build new energy efficient homes in the United States. The homes must be certified as having met the energy saving requirements of the program and criteria set forth by the Internal Revenue Code. Other restrictions apply.
