Field Evaluation Sponsorships
Builders consistently report that they value the hands-on, real-world
information that result from case studies and demonstration projects involving
new technologies and building practices. Field evaluations closely study
a technology’s effect on scheduling, installation costs, and the flow of an
actual building project, among other issues. When made public, the data
these studies produce often helps to alleviate builders’ concerns about the
risks and challenges of new technologies and practices.
ToolBase field evaluations may be implemented through either the NAHB Research
Center or the Partnership for Advancing Technology in Housing (PATH).
There are two distinct differences between these types of evaluations.
First, all PATH field evaluation findings must be made public, while sponsors
may choose to disseminate or hold the data resulting from NAHB Research Center
field evaluations. Second, PATH field evaluation participants may
be eligible for some support from PATH in the evaluation’s implementation and
marketing efforts.
Sponsor partners are able to earmark funding for a particular type of
technology or topic area. However, only building scientists at the NAHB
Research Center may direct the manner in which the field evaluation is designed
and/or implemented.
Field evaluations are ideal for manufacturers or trade associations seeking to
highlight their technologies’ performance. They are also appropriate for
organizations interested in advancing a particular aspect of building, such as
energy efficiency, resource re-use, and green building, among others.
